Since its beginning in 1978, the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development has emphasized the importance of teaching excellence in open-door settings. Our conferences and publications endeavor to reinforce the primacy of teaching and to celebrate instructors programs that make good on the promise of the open door. NISOD is the outreach vehicle and service arm to the Community College Leadership Program (CCLP). The CCLP, at The University of Texas at Austin, is a doctoral-level program training community college presidents, vice presidents, and deans for 60 years. More than 15 percent of the nation's presidents, vice presidents, and deans, as well as a healthy proportion of other college administrators, are UT-CCLP graduates. For 26 years, NISOD's worldwide consortium has been dedicated to the professional development of faculty, administrators, and staff, and to the continued improvement of teaching and learning, with the ultimate goal of student success. More than 600 community colleges around the world are NISOD members, including almost every large community college district, the majority of urban and technical colleges in the United States and Canada, and more than 200 small, rural colleges around the world

The professional associations that comprise NCATE appoint representatives to NCATE’s boards who are qualified, by education and experience, in their fields; affiliations and professional qualifications of board members are available to the public upon request, under terms described in NCATE’s policies on dissemination of information. All governing board members are trained by the agency on its standards, policies, and procedures, including the processes for revision and establishment of policies, and the policies for making—as applicable—accreditation and preaccreditation decisions; decisions on state partnership applications; and decisions on applications for the recognition of program standards. Required, formal training for new members on each board takes place on an annual basis, for a half day or a full day before the fall board meetings. Additional training sessions may be held for board members on an as-needed basis.

Sakej Henderson, the Research Director of the Native Law Centre, has been appointed by the Government of Canada to the Experts Advisory Group on International Cultural Diversity. As an legal expert and key thinker on cultural policy, he will be providing advice on Canada's approach to the international cultural diversity agenda, including the elaboration of a new International Instrument on Cultural Diversity (NIICD). The new convention will attempt to set a foundation for ground rules to enable Canada and other countries to maintain policies to promote cultural diversity while respecting the rules governing the international trading system and ensuring markets for cultural exports. The Experts Advisory Group will build on Canadian knowledge and expertise to ensure that international approaches are inclusive of and celebrates cultural diversity, act as a preliminary forum for consultation before Canada engages in more extensive consultations, to provide advice on the elaboration of the new international instrument, and contribute to a domestic dialogue on cultural diversity issues being discussed at the international level.
